The Key is Good Communication Skills!

Communication Skills - The Key to Your SuccessGood communication skills mean good business. You are a representative of yourself and your company. So, employers look for people who have good communication skills. If you are a better communicator, you are more likely to hired, promoted in your job. Did you know that?

What does this mean for you? What am I talking about? Below are some skills that are a part of being a good communicator. The types of skills that are important for your career will vary, but some basic skills include:

  • Can you write an email message, a memo or a report?
  • Can you talk with clients, supervisors and co-workers in a professional manner?
  • What do your nonverbal qualities say about you? What do you wear? How do you use hand gestures? How do you present yourself?
  • Are you comfortable speaking to a small or large group?

A “Gate Keeper”

I like to call communication a “Gate Keeper”. Poor skills will keep you from getting the job and getting promoted. All things being equal, a person who can communicate will get the job or promotion over someone who has poor communication skills.

Think about successful people, a mentor or someone you look up to in your personal life. Does that person have good communication skills? More than likely, YES! The good news is that you can become a better communicator! You are NOT stuck where you are if you need better skills.

Communication skills can be learned!

It’s an art and a skill. We are born without any communication skills and must learn them. For some, communication might come naturally, but most people must work to be a better writer, presenter, and conversationalist.
