After a busy Christmas vacation or after a fun summer break, going back to work can be difficult. In this post, I will share one way to beat the back to work blues.
Why is going back to work so difficult?
Going back to work after an extended break is difficult mainly due to these reasons listed below. I apologize to the men reading this, because I’m writing from a woman’s perspective. Can you relate to any of these reasons? It’s hard to go back to work because I have to:
1- Get up early
2- Get dressed and wear a bra
3- Get dressed in work clothes and work shoes (not sweats, yoga pants or jeans)
4- Wear makeup
5- Fix my hair (curling, straitening, wearing hair spray, etc)
6- Not eat all day. This is the WORST after Christmas. Eating during the Christmas holidays is almost nonstop. When going back to work, this stops. The worst.
7- Go to a job I don’t like
8- Go to work with people I don’t like
Reasons 1 through 6 are all about ME.
What about the people or problems at work that you aren’t ready to face? What if you don’t like your work environment or the actual work you are doing? Reason 7 and 8 may be the BEST reason to act upon the one way to beat the back to work blues.
Evaluate Your Situation
If you are having the back to work blues, now is the time to think about your life, your future and if you are working in a profession that makes you happy and makes you money. While I’m all about working in a job that makes you happy, I’m a realist and want to be certain that you can support yourself financially.
Options are Key to the Solution
What are your options for working in a job that makes you money and makes you happy? Are there options? Can you work for a different company? What about a new job within the same company? What’s out there for you? The reality for many people is that there are few options. When evaluating options, I have discovered that:
1- Options are limited
2- Options may require drastic changes such as training, moving, etc.
One Way to Beat the Back to Work Blues
What if I told you there is an OPTION to beat the back to school blues that will NOT cause a drastic change? Let me tell you about the option that worked for me!
The way I beat the back to work blues is by starting a home based business. When I went back to work this January, I simply walked down the hall from my kitchen to my office. This was the first January to go to work down the hall! I didn’t have to deal with any of the 8 reasons I didn’t want to go back to work!
The option I chose is not for everyone, but I was surprised that this was the option for me. Five years ago, I would have never thought I would be working from home. The change didn’t happen overnight, but it did happen.
How can you beat the back to work blues? The answer is to have OPTIONS.
Best,
Kathleen
